My illustration of the crushed rose is still my favourite for this season. Firstly there’s the outer beauty of the rose and then the inner beauty of the fragrant healing oil that you get after the petals have been crushed.
Sometimes, things need to be broken to get the best out of them. Try crushing rose petals in your hands; the burst of the fragrance that comes forth is not only sweet smelling and relaxing, but the oil from the rose is used in the treatment of several ailments and it helps with blood circulation.
Rose oil however, is still one of the most expensive essential oils you can get. If you’ve ever bought a bottle cheap, then it was either a copy or a mix. In my study of Aromatherapy, I found out that it takes 2,000kgs of rose petals to make 1kg of Rose oil!
In Christendom, we celebrate The Messiah that was crushed and broken on a cross; that shed His blood so we could be healed. And the really fantastic thing about this is that, (unlike having to crush thousands of petals to get healing for one person) though there are millions of us, it took the crushing of ONE Messiah to get healing for all of us – a healing that is still there today for anyone to take freely of!
So whenever you feel down and broken inside, crush a rose petal in the palm of your hands believing that the sweet smelling fragrance of your ‘Crushed Rose’ will bring healing with it in some way.
Smell the roses and have a restful Easter.
Emma
